The Mascarat Teatre company stars in a high-level performance within the Amateur Theater cultural program

'La Casa de Bernarda Alba' brings a packed Benidorm Cultural Center to its feet

06 April 2024
Un momento de la representación

The Auditorium of the Cultural Center was packed with people last night, Friday, to enjoy the performance of 'The House of Bernarda Alba', within the Amateur Theater program organized by the Department of Culture of the Benidorm City Council. With a simple but careful staging, by the company Mascarat Producciones, the performance of this classic play by Federico García Lorca brought the entire auditorium to its feet, which gave a loud and long applause.

Among the attendees in the stalls were the mayor of the city, Toni Pérez, as well as other members of the Municipal Corporation, and citizens of all ages, who filled the 450 seats that made up the capacity of this space and enjoyed the work, starring mostly amateur actresses from Benidorm and other neighbouring municipalities. Among them, Virginia Barba, Olga Reinoso, Rosario Ortuño, Cristina Pérez, Sonia Padilla, Cristina Jiménez, Irene Pérez, Bárbara Murciano, Mari Ángeles Alcañiz, accompanied in the background by the actors Toni Moya, José González, Mateo Gandía, Mariano Gomis and Rudy Tihelens.

'La Casa de Bernarda Alba' is a classic of theatre in Spanish, written by Lorca in 1936, and which addresses the confrontation between authority and the desire for freedom, through themes such as oppression, sexual repression or the fight for power in a patriarchal society, leading its protagonists towards despair and tragedy.

During the next few weeks, the Benidorm Cultural programming organized by the Department of Culture, directed by councillor Jaime Jesús Pérez, continues with other artistic and cultural disciplines. Among them, are the V International Poetry Festival, the VIII Skyline Benidorm Film Festival, concerts, book presentations or exhibitions of different themes.
