The mayor and several members of the corporation shared the celebration by reading some fragments of great classical authors with the schoolchildren

Students from three schools in Benidorm celebrate Book Day with a public reading in Parc de Foietes

23 April 2024
Día del Libro

Fifth-grade students from three public schools in Benidorm commemorated Book Day this Tuesday with a public reading in Parc de Foietes. The activity has been organized by the Department of Historical and Cultural Heritage and this year it has been dedicated to theatre, as explained by the department councillor, Ana Pellicer. The councillor thanked “the participation and collaboration of the three participating centres and the involvement of teachers and students, which has allowed us to experience an extraordinary morning.”

Mayor, Toni Pérez, with numerous councillors from the municipal corporation, shared with the schoolchildren the reading of some fragments of great theatre authors. Among them there has been no shortage of texts by national and international authors, such as 'El Gran Teatro del Mundo' by Pedro Calderón de la Barca; 'Sueño de una noche de Verano' by William Shakespeare; 'La señorita de Trevélez' by Carlos Arniches; 'Bodas de Sangre' and 'La casa de Bernarda Alba' by Federico García Lorca; 'The Revenge of Don Mendo' by Pedro Muñoz Seca; or 'Tres sombreros de copas' by Miguel Mihura, and many others.

The commemoration ended with a story-telling activity aimed at these schoolchildren, after which they all returned to their respective centres.

The councillor for Historical and Cultural Heritage recalled that this is "the second activity of this type that we do in Parc de Foietes as a setting, in front of the mural recovered from the old Hotel Selomar', a mural restored by the City Council and last autumn was placed on one of the perimeter walls of this large green area. Pellicer highlighted that in these events “we combine the fact of bringing culture closer to the youngest and taking it out into the streets with the possibility of enjoying spaces as attractive as this one”, which he defined as “quite a piece of luck”.
