Benidorm embraces La Vuelta as hundreds cheer on the peloton and thousands flock to the fan zone
The city has enjoyed a day marked by the passage of the ninth stage of La Vuelta, which started in La Vila Joiosa and finished at Alto de Aitana
Benidorm experienced an action-packed day of cycling this Sunday as the ninth stage of La Vuelta a España passed through the city. The stage set off at 12:30 p.m. from La Vila Joiosa and finished at Alto de Aitana after 187.4 kilometres and more than 5,000 metres of elevation gain.
The stage, one of the most demanding of this year’s race, featured six classified climbs and ended with victory for Enric Mas, who claimed the win at the summit finish on Aitana. Once again, the crowds played a starring role throughout the day.
The peloton passed through Benidorm shortly before 1 p.m., specifically at the junction of the CV-758 and CV-70, where hundreds of cycling fans gathered on both sides of the route to cheer the riders and watch the race go by.
The excitement of La Vuelta continued into the afternoon at the Fan Zone, set up between Paseo de Levante and Avenida de Europa. The area attracted thousands of people, many arriving by bike, and offered a wide range of entertainment, activities and opportunities to get involved in the race, particularly for younger visitors.
The venue featured stands from partner companies and various organisations, including the National Police and the Civil Guard, which gave visitors the chance to learn more about their resources, activities and work, as well as other event-related attractions.
Once again, Benidorm enjoyed a day in which sport, leisure and community participation shared the spotlight, further strengthening the city’s profile as a venue for major sporting events.
