New climate control system to be installed at Benidorm’s L’Illa Sports Palace swimming pool
The City Council has approved the replacement of the existing system, with a budget of €212,387.83 and a four-month completion period
The Local Government Board of Benidorm City Council has approved the project to replace the existing climate control system at the swimming pool of Benidorm’s L’Illa Sports Palace. The tender budget will be €212,387.83, with a planned completion period of four months.
The climate control and dehumidification system is designed to maintain the temperature, humidity and indoor environmental quality conditions required for the normal operation of the indoor swimming pool. However, the age of the existing equipment and technological and regulatory developments in this type of installation “make it advisable to replace the current system with a more energy-efficient solution, offering improved regulation capabilities and enhanced comfort and indoor air quality,” said Councillor for Sports Javier Jordá.
The project aims to define and assess the works required to replace the existing dehumidifier with a new, highly energy-efficient air handling unit (AHU), “while maintaining the pool’s operating conditions and improving the performance of the existing heating and cooling system.” The new installation will include, among other features, “heat recovery through a high-efficiency rotary heat exchanger, variable-speed fans, automatic temperature and humidity control, and monitoring systems, and will be ready for future integration into a centralised building management system,” the councillor added.
Jordá stressed that the new climate control system “will maintain the use and general characteristics of the L’Illa Sports Palace building, with its installation limited to the necessary modernisation and improvement of its heating and cooling system.” In this regard, the project has already been reviewed by the City Council’s technical staff, who have assessed its content, level of detail, technical feasibility and compliance with the applicable regulations and have issued a favourable report to allow the process for carrying out the works to proceed.
The Local Government Board has also approved the continuation of the necessary administrative procedures for the tendering and execution of the works, subject to the completion of the corresponding procurement procedure.
