Benidorm approves project to upgrade lighting at the Antonio López football fields
The project has a budget of €279,149.82 and an estimated completion period of four months
The Local Government Board of Benidorm City Council has approved the technical project to renovate the lighting at the Antonio López football pitches in the Rincón de Loix area. The project has been approved with a budget of €279,149.82 and an estimated completion period of four months.
According to the proposal submitted by Councillors for Sports and Urban Scene, Javier Jordá and Francis Muñoz, the lighting system “is in a condition that makes its renovation necessary, both in terms of lighting performance and the safety and efficiency of the electrical installation itself”, as the current lighting levels do not meet the requirements established for a Class III football pitch, as is the case here. Jordá also pointed to “the age of part of the electrical installation supplying the floodlights, as well as the fact that the existing configuration does not allow lighting levels to be adjusted to the actual needs of the pitches.”
The project aims to define the works required for the comprehensive renovation of the sports lighting system, replacing the existing floodlights with new high-efficiency LED units, “as well as upgrading the associated electrical installation and replacing two lighting towers that are in a poor state of repair.” According to Jordá, the planned solution will “improve lighting levels at the sports facilities and reduce their energy consumption.”
The figures forecast once the renovation is complete point to a “significant improvement in energy efficiency”, the councillor said. The power currently used to light pitches 1 and 2 will fall from approximately 47.45 kW to 24 kW, resulting in an annual reduction in energy consumption of 34,237 kWh. “This reduction in consumption will also mean an estimated decrease of around 8,868 kilograms of CO₂ emissions per year,” Jordá added.
Awarding of the bar service contract
Meanwhile, the Local Government Board has also approved the award of the concession to operate the bar at these sports facilities. The procedure used was a standard restricted tender, with the contract awarded to Beatriz del Pilar Sequero Ruiz based on her proposed annual concession fee of €24,125. Her bid received the highest score, ahead of the other two bidders, Oasis Beach Benidorm and Easy Consulting.
