Benidorm hosts its first Women’s Blind Tennis Tournament from today until Saturday

Raúl Mesa Sports Pavilion at Benidorm’s Guillermo Amor Sports City is hosting the first Women’s Blind Tennis Tournament from today, Thursday, until Saturday, September 5. The tournament features players from Australia, the United States, France, Germany and Spain competing in the B1, B2, B3 and B4 categories.

Blind tennis is an adaptation of traditional tennis that enables blind and visually impaired people to enjoy the sport. Matches are played on an adapted court and use a sound-emitting ball, among other technical adaptations.

Benidorm Mayor Toni Pérez and Councillor for Sports Javier Jordá attended one of the matches at the Raúl Mesa pavilion, where they were welcomed by Marta Hiniesto, delegate of the IBTA (International Blind Tennis Association), the organisation behind the tournament. Hiniesto presented them with a plaque in recognition of the City Council’s support for organising the event.
