The Local Government Board approves amendments to the recruitment terms and the addition of five new positions to the call for applications approved in 2025

Benidorm City Council has resumed the procedures to permanently fill 25 Local Police officer positions, 15 of which will be filled through open recruitment and the remaining 10 through an internal mobility process, as previously announced. To this end, the Local Government Board approved this Thursday amendments to the terms governing the new selection process. As explained by the city’s mayor, Toni Pérez, the process “will include all the Local Police positions offered to date” under the various public employment offers approved since 2023, with five additional positions being added from the 2025 public employment offer.

The mayor stressed that, with the approval of these terms, which have already passed the required financial oversight stage, “we are therefore launching the procedure that will allow us to strengthen our Local Police force with more personnel.” Pérez noted that “it has been a lengthy process and has been delayed due to circumstances that had nothing to do with this City Council,” referring to legislative changes that the Valencian Regional Government had to introduce in order to implement two rulings by the High Court of Justice of Valencia (TSJ) affecting mobility competitions, which brought all ongoing processes to a halt.

“Now that the procedure to fill these positions has been resumed, we hope that all the deadlines can be met as swiftly as possible,” he added. The local government expects the first tests in this selection process to take place before the end of the year and for the process to be completed before next summer, allowing the 25 new officers to begin working in time for the peak tourist season.

For her part, Councillor for Human Resources Ana Soliveres recalled that “in the middle of last year, the City Council approved the terms for the recruitment of the 20 positions corresponding to the 2023 and 2024 Public Employment Offers.” However, this process, like all other recruitment processes launched across the Valencian Community to fill Local Police positions, “was suspended pending the Valencian Regional Government’s decision on how to implement two rulings affecting mobility competitions.” This situation was resolved on August 11 with Law 5/2026, which accompanies the regional government’s budget.

As soon as the law was published, “the Human Resources Department took all the necessary steps to reactivate the process already underway to fill those 20 positions and to incorporate the five positions corresponding to the 2025 Public Employment Offer,” bringing the total number of positions being advertised to 25: 15 through open recruitment, which is open to anyone who meets the requirements, and the remaining 10 through the mobility process, reserved for people who are already serving as Local Police officers in a municipality within the Valencian Community.

The next step, as set out in the terms, will be their publication in the Official Gazette of the Province of Alicante (BOP), the Official Gazette of the Valencian Community (DOGV) and the Official State Gazette (BOE). From the date of publication, candidates for the mobility process who met the new assessment criteria established in the implementation of the TSJ rulings as of June 18, 2025, when the initial application period for the recruitment process ended, will have 20 days to submit their applications.

Applications may be submitted through Benidorm City Council’s Electronic Office https://sede.benidorm.org as a General Application, either in person at the City Council’s General Registry Office or by post.

With regard to applications submitted as of June 18, 2025, both through the open recruitment and mobility processes, all remain valid, meaning that applicants will not need to complete any additional procedures
